Competition entry for the general renovation of the Medical University of Innsbruck
Interpretive facade renovation of a 70s building
The subject of the competition was the conversion of the existing building into a teaching and learning building with renewal of the facade, restructuring of the internal uses and new construction of lecture halls and seminar rooms. A new metal facade with prefabricated parapets in dry lightweight construction, suspended in front of the structure, replaces the dilapidated precast concrete elements of the existing building. The image of a "smooth skin" is avoided: Instead, the new facade with its projections and recesses is understood as an interpretation of the plasticity of the existing facade.
